The purpose of the club is to give students at Pope High School the opportunity to learn the sport of fencing. We welcome complete beginners as well as experienced fencers. In Georgia high schools, fencing is a club activity rather than a sanctioned sport.
Practices begin at the start of the fall semester and continue until the February break. Tournaments are about once or twice a month from September through February.
The club has competed in the Georgia High School Fencing League since the 2007-08 season. We have gone from one fencer competing in that first tournament in September 2007 to 49 competing in the 2015-16 season.
Pope fencers have won more Individual Championships than any other school in the league (4 for the women and 2 for the men). In the 7 years that the league has held Team Championship, Pope has won more than any other school (4 for the women and 2 for the men).
