Round 5 of the regular season is on 3 December and Pope competes at Roswell High School.


Pope won four medals today. Ana Cristian took gold, Lyndsay Wagner and Ellie Fayet took bronze. In the men’s event, Ryan Kretzmer took bronze (his first medal).

Of the 31 Pope fencers who competed, 10 earned points for themselves and their team by finishing in the top 16 of their event. In addition to the medal winners, they were Erika Sprecher (9th), Rebecca Xhajanka (11th) and Rae Keller (14th) for the women; and Leo Nayshtut (8th – his first top 8 finish), Myles Goldring (10th) and Roman Mazzoni (16th) for the men.

Two Pope fencers set new personal bests, they were Ryan Kretzmer (3rd) and Leo Nayshtut (8th). In addition, Ana Cristian (1st) equaled her personal best.

Three Pope fencers earned their Varsity Letter today by having at least 75 points. They are Ryan (his first letter), Myles (his second letter) and Roman (his second letter).

Ana remains in first place in the women’s standings, Lyndsay remains in second place (tied with Maggie Fritts of Centennial), Ellie moves up to 9th place and Erika are remains in 10th place. In the men’s standings, Ryan moves up to 24th place and Myles to 32nd.

The Pope women again increased their lead at the top of the team standings and are now 499 points ahead of Chattahoochee. The men dropped one place to 6th, 7 points behind Centennial and 40 points ahead of Milton. Lassiter now leads the men’s team standings with Alpharetta 23 points behind.

One of our new fencers reached a milestones today. Leo Nayshtut finished in the top 8 for the first time.

The host has announced the following times.

  • Sign in opens at 7:30 AM
  • The referee meeting is at 8:15 AM
  • Men’s sign in closes at 8:30 AM
  • Women’s sign in closes at 9:45 AM

If you are fencing you should arrive no later than 30 minutes before sign in closes to give time to sign in and warm up. Referees and scorekeepers should arrive in time for the referee meeting.

There will be a concessions stand.
