Round 3 of the regular season is on 21 October and Pope is competing at Cambridge High School.

Highlights

Pope won three medals again today. In the women’s event, Lyndsay Wagner won her third gold. In the men’s event, Ryan Kretzmer won silver and Jett Smith took bronze.

Of the 27 Pope fencers who competed, 10 earned points for themselves and their team by finishing in the top 16 of their event. In addition to the medal winners, they were Roman Mazzoni (5th), Matthew Chambers (6th – his first top 8 finish), Sara Nelson (6th), Joey Montalvo (9th – his first points), Samantha Hasleton (12th), Nyiko Maswanganye (15th – his first points) and Christina Freitas (16th – her first points).

Ten Pope fencers set new personal bests, they were Matthew Chambers (6th), Joey Montalvo (9th), Nyiko Maswanganye (15th), Christina Freitas (16th), Dennis Veller (22nd), Joshua Yawn (30th), Connor McDonald (36th), Joey Avena (44th), Andrew Prillaman (46th and Robert Russomanno (55th) Lyndsay Wagner (1st) and Jett Smith (3rd) equaled their personal bests.

Sara Nelson, Samantha Hasleton and Jett Smith earned their Varsity Letter for fencing by earning at least 75 points, joining Lyndsay Wagner and Ryan Kretzmer who earned theirs at the last tournament.

The Pope women remain in 1st place in the women’s team standings, ahead of Johns Creek. The men moved ahead of Johns Creek and Northview to take 3rd place in the men’s team standings, just 12 points behind 2nd placed Alpharetta. In the combined team points list, Pope is in 1st place, 43 points ahead of Johns Creek.

Start times

Start times will be the standard ones:

  •   7:30 – Sign in opens
  •   8:15 – Referee meeting
  •   8:30 – Men’s sign in closes
  • 10:00 – Women’s sign in closes


Fencers should arrive at least 30 minutes before sign in closes. Referees and scorekeepers should arrive in time for the referee meeting.

Directions

The address of Cambridge High School is 3595 Webb Bridge Rd, Alpharetta, GA 30005. According to Google Maps, it is a 30 minute drive from Pope if there is no traffic.

The tournament will be in the main gym. Park at the front of the school next to Bethany Bend, there will be signs pointing to the “Event Entrance” to the school.
