Fencing is fun. Paperwork, not so much.
For the 2017-18 season, we have tried to streamline the paperwork required in order to fence. We have eliminated all Pope Fencing Club paperwork and only need forms that are required either by the Pope Administration or the Georgia High School Fencing League.
Cobb Athletic Registration
Athletic Registration is supposed to be done through your ParentVUE account. Unfortunately that process currently doesn’t work for fencers (it requires you to pick a sport, and fencing is not an available option). If the student is (or might be) participating in another sport, you can select that sport, but that will still not identify the athlete as a fencer.
The Pope administration has said that all fencers must complete Athletic Registration. However, they say we can wait until the process is fixed.
Even though Pope says fencers can wait for the Athletic Registration process to be fixed, the league requires all fencers to have an athlete physical exam (which is part of Athletic Registration) before they compete in a tournament. Our first tournament is on 9 Sep, so fencers will need to have their physical before the end of August in order to be cleared by the league in time to compete.
The form that you must take to the physical exam is available on the Cobb Schools website at cobbk12.org/centraloffice/athletics/2017-18PhysicalForm.pdf. Please use this form and go ahead and have the physical exam. You can have your doctor do it, or you can go to any medical facility (such as an urgent care center) that does Athlete Physicals. I believe that once the registration process is fixed, you will be able to upload this form to complete the process (so you won’t have to have a second physical).
Please make a copy of the signed Clearance Form (page 6 of the document from the Cobb website) and either e-mail it to Mr. Grimshaw or bring it in to practice before the end of August. That will allow us to report to the league that the exam has been passed. Do not send us the original form, you will eventually need that to complete registration on ParentVUE.
League Waiver and Medical form
The League Waiver and Medical form is available on this website. Please type in the requested information while you have the form open on your computer, then print it and sign it. Please note that there are three pages and there is information that you need to type in on pages 2 and 3.
The league requires the fencer and both parents/guardians to sign the form. If there is no second parent/guardian, please enter the reason in the signature block. If any of the three signature blocks is empty, the league will not accept the form and the fencer will not be allowed to compete.
Either bring this form to the first practice that you attend, or scan the signed form and e-mail it to Mr Grimshaw.
