Our men’s and women’s teams will defend their league Championship on Saturday at Pope.
Congratulations to the 4 men and 4 women who were selected for the teams. We have so many great fencers, it is a shame that we can’t have more than four on each team. However, everyone will get a chance to fence in a team tournament beginning on Wednesday at practice when we start the annual Pope Team Tournament.
About six fencers have volunteered to stay after school on Friday to find the tables and chairs we need and move them close to the gym. We will meet at 3:30 in the cafeteria, and should be finished by 4:00.
All fencers who are not competing in the Championship should arrive at 7 AM on Saturday to help set up the gym. Those who have not yet brought in their food or drink items for the concessions stand should take them to the concessions area before 8 AM.
Congratulations to the 14 Pope fencers who qualified. I’ll be looking for you at the medal ceremony.
At the Individual Championship, medals are awarded to the top 8 fencers in each event and each champion gets to bring home the traveling trophy. Points (which help to decide seeding in the Team Championship) are awarded to the top 32 in each event.
