GHSFL is holding its third annual Holiday Team Tournament on 20 December (the first day of the winter break) at Alpharetta. This is the only team tournament that the league host except for the Team Championship. It is a opportunity for all fencers to try out the team event format.
Fencers who are interested in competing must form their own teams. Teams are supposed to consist of three or four fencers of the same sex from the same school. In the past, the organisers have been known to break up teams of four and combine them with fencers from other schools who don’t have enough to make a full team. If you want to your team to stay together, your best bet is to form a team of three. There will be sign up sheets available at practice on 3 December and 10 December. There will be an entry fee (last year it was $10 per fencer) that the fencers will be responsible for paying.
To find out how team events work go to the Team Match page. When Alpharetta announces start times, they will be posted on the 20 Dec Team Tournament page.
I have just been told that yearbook pictures for clubs has been moved to Tuesday December 2nd. The time slot for the Fencing Team is 11:20 in the main gym. Please wear this year’s team t-shirt (iFence Pope) if possible.
Becky Shook has volunteered to pick up passes for everyone from Ms Macon (the yearbook adviser) and will arrange to get them to the other fencers.
Our late November tournament was at Northview, and the other GHSFL tournament was held at Johns Creek. A league record 274 fencers competed in the two tournaments. 351 fencers have competed so far this season, which is also a record.
Congratulations to Ana on her second gold medal, to Erin her silver (Erin has been in the final in all five tournaments so far this year) and to Keegan on his second bronze medal.
