The 2nd Annual GHSFL Holiday Team Tournament took place yesterday. The event was very large, with 37 teams, and I think was more fencing than many of the fencers have done before in a day.
Erin, Sydney and Anna DM took bronze in the women’s event. Mason, Myles and Zac won ribbons for finishing 8th in the men’s event (I have the ribbons and will bring them to the next practice). Josh helped make up a team with two Cambridge fencers that was tied for 11th place. Rebecca and Moira (joined by a fencer from Lassiter) were tied for 13th place.
More details are in your e-mail and on the Holiday Team Tournament page.
Jaeger’s mom won a sweepstakes recently, and the prize was a fencing program for the school of her choice. As Pope already has a fencing programs, she designated Dodgen Middle School (where her younger children go) to receive the program.
The program is organised by Fencing in the Schools, an organisation founded by US Olympic fencer Tim Morehouse to promote fencing. Dodgen will receive an assembly from one of Fencing in the Schools’ Olympic Athlete ambassadors, training for the PE teacher to teach a one month unit on fencing, fencing equipment and ongoing support.
Tim Morehouse announced the win yesterday on his Facebook page.
Another record-setting tournament!
Anna DM’s first ever medal brought our total to six medals, the most we have ever won in a single tournament.
In the men’s event, Luben took gold while Ian and Anthony took bronze. In the women’s event, Katie took gold while Christi and Anna took bronze. This was only the third time we have won both gold medals.
