Fencers should check the boxes on the sign in sheet at Wednesday’s practice to show if they are or are not available to fence in the tournament. If you will not be at practice, please reply to the e-mail from Statsman to say if you will be at the tournament or not.
Dunwoody Fencing Club is having another Holiday Special. This is a chance to try out a private club to see if you would be interested in joining. For a single payment of $30 per fencer you can attend Monday, Friday and Saturday practices for three weeks from 17 December through 5 January.
Dunwoody’s practice facility is at 735 West Crossville Road in Roswell. It is the free-standing building between Walgreen’s and Pike’s Nursery. Monday and Friday practices are 7 PM to 9 PM and Saturday practices are 10 AM to 2 PM. You can attend whichever practices you like, you don’t have to attend all of them (although the more you attend, the more value you get for your $30).
The offer is open to current fencers at Pope (and other league schools) who are not fencing for private club, as well as any friends of the team who would like to try a new sport. The offer is a significant discount and is intended to encourage the fencers to practice over the Holiday break.
Congratulation to Luben, who qualified for Junior Olympics by winning both the Cadet (under 17) and Junior (under 20) qualifiers for Georgia. This will be Luben’s first national championship tournament. It also makes five years in a row that there has been at least one Pope fencer at Junior Olympics.
In the Junior (under 20) Women’s Epee qualifier, Katie V R finished 5th, just missing out on qualifying (unless one of the top four finishers had already qualified some other way). Katie is already qualified for the Cadet (under 17) event at Junior Olympics as she is nationally ranked in that age group. Christi and Erin also competed in the Junior qualifier and finished 9th and 12th respectively.
Congratulations to all four Pope fencers on a great performance, and good luck to Luben and Katie at JOs.
