With 113 fencers, this was the league’s largest tournament of the season so far and the largest regular season tournament in four years.
8 Pope fencers earned points and a league ranking by finishing in the top 16 in their event. For the women they were Katie V R (5th), Chloe (8th), Paige (9th), Mandy (12th, her first league ranking) and Christi (15th). For the men they were Jake (5th), Luben (11th) and Mike (14th).
Three Pope fencers had the highest finish of their career: Page (9th), Mandy (12th) and Kayla (18th).
Our new fencers continued to progress with Kayla finishing in the top 20 in her first two tournaments, Ri earning a bye in her first Direct Elimination round and finishing in the top 32, and Bella and Mitchell both winning a pool bout in their first tournament.
The men’s team is now ranked 3rd behind Northview and Johns Creek, and the women are 3rd behind Chattahoochee and Alpharetta.
We now have 15 fencers with league rankings, closing in on the record of 17 that we set last year. Ranked in the top 10 are Chloe (3rd) and Katie V R (7th) for the women and Jake (5th) for the men.
Congratulations to all the Pope fencers!

There are three requirements to qualify for the Individual Championship Tournament on 4 February:
- Earn points by finishing in the top 16 of at least one tournament this season.
- Compete in at least three tournaments this season.
- If more than 84 fencers of a given sex meet the first two requirements, the 84 with the most points will qualify (including any tied for 84th place). It is unlikely that more than 84 fencers of either sex will meet the first two requirements, so this rule probably won’t come into play.
Most of the Pope fencers who have earned points have already competed in three tournaments. But remember, no matter how many points you earn, if you haven’t competed in three tournaments this season, “No Championship for you”.
