Our second practice of the season will be on Wednesday 31 August at 3:30 in the Cafeteria. Going by this week’s experience, it seems that the Cafeteria empties out pretty quickly at 3:30, so please be there dressed and ready to clear tables out of the way for practice top start.
Any Pope students who think they might be interested in fencing are invited to join us for the practice. If you want to join in, rather than just watch, we need you to bring along the forms that you can find in the registration page signed by your parents.
When practice ends at 6:00, we will have pizza for fencers and parents followed by the parent meeting at 6:30 in the Media Center. The meeting is open to any parents who want to know more about the club. For fencers who are joining the club, we will be making sure all paperwork is complete. Please bring your medical insurance card so that we can make a copy of it.
The league has moved our second tournament from 8 October to 15 October in order to avoid conflicting with Yom Kippur. The tournament will still be at North Springs. The 2011-12 Tournament Schedule has been updated.
The other early October tournament (at Northview) is still scheduled for 8 October. Fencers scheduled to be at that tournament but who are observing Yom Kippur have been invited to join us at North Springs.
The bottom line is that Pope is fencing on 15 October at North Springs.
The league has clarified that tournament hosts must provide at least six strips and should allow pools as large as seven. With six schools at each tournament, that means that each school is guaranteed to be able to send at least seven fencers of each sex. If the host provides more than six strips, or if some schools have less than their guaranteed number of fencers, then the larger schools (such as Pope) will be able to send more than seven fencers of each sex.
League waiver forms
Also, the league has sent us the waiver form that they require all fencers (or their parents in the case of minors) to sign. I’m afraid this is in addition to our club’s waiver form. Please download it, complete it and bring it to practice as soon as possible, and certainly before your first tournament.
Our first practice of the season will be on Wednesday 24 August after school in the cafeteria. Those of you who have uniforms and equipment should bring them to practice. Mr Gray has very kindly allowed us to store fencing bags in the orchestra room during the day on Wednesday. So we don’t take up too much space, please stack your bags neatly in the orchestra room when you arrive at school and retrieve them when school is over. Practice will begin when the cafeteria empties out as the buses get ready to leave (about 3:30 to 3:45).
We are now accepting registrations for the 2011-12 school year. If you would like to learn about the club and how to join, please go to the Join the Club page. Returning fencers can go straight to the Registration page. …Continue reading →
