Three Pope fencers won medals. Chloe B and Katie V R took bronze in the women’s event and Luben J took bronze in the men’s event (his first medal).
Nine Pope fencers earned points and a league ranking by finishing in the top 16 in their event. In addition to the medal winners they were: Mandy W (11th), Christi N (12th), Alex R (13th) and Abbey S (14th – her first points of the season) for the women; Ian L (6th) and Hayden R (11th) for the men.
Thirteen Pope fencers had the highest finish of their career: Luben J, Ian L, Brian M, Clay C, Mason H and Mitchell M for the men, and Mandy W, Jessie S, Becky S, Anna DM, Bonnie B, Ri S and Ali A for the women.
The men’s team moved up one place and is now ranked 2nd behind Northview and the women are 3rd behind Alpharetta and Chattahoochee.
We now have 16 fencers with league rankings, closing in on the record of 17 that we set last year. Ranked in the top 10 are Chloe B (4th) and Katie V R (7th) for the women and Jake W (8th) for the men.
Congratulations to all the Pope fencers!
A summary of the Pope results and standings is in your e-mail. Detailed results are on this website, go to www.popefencing.org/ghsfl/ghsfl-2011-12-season.
Don’t forget that the next tournament is at Centennial on 7 January, the Saturday before school starts up after the break. If you haven’t done so already, please e-mail me to let me know if you are available to fence. Our roster is due to Centennial by 4 January, I will e-mail you a copy before then for a final check.
There are three requirements to qualify for the Individual Championship Tournament on 4 February:
- Earn points by finishing in the top 16 of at least one tournament this season.
- Compete in at least three tournaments this season.
- If more than 84 fencers of a given sex meet the first two requirements, the 84 with the most points will qualify (including any tied for 84th place). My guess is that less than 84 fencers of each sex will meet the first two requirements, but I can’t guarantee that.
