At practice today, Coach Eichler mentioned that there will be a tournament at Dunwoody on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. For those who are interested in taking part, here are some details.
I believe that you need to be a member of USFA in order to compete. If you were a member last school year, your membership expired in July an you will need to renew your membership. Membership costs $60 for one year (through July 2011) and you can sign up at http://usfencing.org/us-fencing-membership.
The tournament entrance fee (in addition to USFA membership) is $25 if you register in advance or $30 at the door. If you want to register for two events, the second event costs $10 in advance or $15 at the door. You can register in advance using askfred.net which is a national clearing house for fencing tournament registration (check it out for news of other tournaments in the area). The page for the Dunwoody tournament is http://askfred.net/Events/moreInfo.php?tournament_id=13485.
The events being offered include “D & Under Mixed Epee” with check in closing at 9 AM (open to anyone who is not rated by USFA or is rated “D” or lower) and “Open Epee” with check in closing at 1 PM (open to anyone, so obviously the competition is stiffer). If you click the link to see who has preregistered, you will see many familiar names from Roswell, Alpharetta, John’s Creek and Milton as well as (currently) one from Pope.
The tournament is organised by Coach Vail and will be held in the main gym at Dunwoody Baptist Church, 1445 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, 30350, which is where Dunwoody Fencing Club usually practices.
